Rediet Birhane

Rediet Birhane (born January 26, 1995) is an Ethiopian-Canadian long-distance runner. She was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She competed for Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she finished 48th in the marathon with a time of 2:43:18. Birhane made her international debut at the 2015 Great North Run, where she finished second with a personal best time of 1:10:17. She also competed in several Canadian and North American road races throughout the year, including the Toronto Marathon, where she finished eighth in 2:34:51. In 2016, Birhane had a standout performance at the Boston Marathon, finishing third with a time of 2:32:27. She also ran the London Marathon later that year, finishing fifth in 2:29:29. Birhane continued to excel in marathon racing throughout 2017 and 2018, winning several races including the Chicago Marathon in 2017 with a time of 2:24:39 and the Boston Marathon in 2018 with a time of 2:24:54. She also finished second at the Berlin Marathon in 2018 with a personal best time of 2:21:55. Birhane's success on the track has earned her recognition from both the Canadian and international athletic community. She was named the Canadian Female Athlete of the Year by Athletics Canada in 2018 and was also included in the list of 10 women to watch in the marathon by Runner's World.
